I feel like I’ve lost about two weeks in returning from our travels to Beijing.  Somehow reengaging in my life here in Frisco is taking longer than I ever imagined.  Thanks to all of you who are patient with me on that!

We returned from Beijing on a Sunday night in August at about 4 PM with a 12-hour time change and the knowledge that the girls needed to get up for the first day of school in the morning.  But now I’ve learned the way to do school right!

We put the girls to bed on Sunday night as soon as we could get them down, but for the first day of school, they were up at 5 AM.  That 12-hour time difference really helped us!!  And while they were ready to hit the sack at 7PM on Monday night, I was happy to see that they adjusted really well to the rest of the week.

We’ve been in school for almost two weeks now and the toughest part of the transition for them involved a single trip for one of them to the nurse’s office to sleep during PE.

And now to transfer you to our present day life!

It’s the second weekend in September, but the first weekend for may things in our life!  A first weekend for our cheer team’s first game.  We didn’t win, but we had a lot of fun.

And tomorrow for church…. Our first weekend with our new children’s minister and our first weekend with our fall semester!  New teachers and new little ones and a season for making a difference in the lives of others.

We’ve been averaging about 130 kids in our preschool department in the last few weeks.  My heart is with them as some of them move upstairs to kindergarten.  Change is not easy at this age.  But it beats with excitement for those who stay with us as 3,4 and 5 year olds!  I love being a preschool team leader and how God is using me to connect the lives of those little ones with the teachers who are taking time out of their lives to serve them!

I must head to bed now.  This weekend is also the back to school retreat for the middle and high school youth at our church.  They have spent the weekend bonding and growing closer to God.  I remember this same weekend last year when one of those same youth who didn’t even want to come on the retreat agreed to stay with us and ended up asking Jesus into her heart.  It is an amazing and life-changing weekend for these kids!

They grow up so fast and it is so easy for us to miss the chance to make a difference in their lives.

I don’t know what difference our vacation to the Olympics will make in the lives of our children.

I don’t know what impact supporting our preschool ministry will make on the little ones whose parents entrust us with their lives.  Today.

And I have no idea of the difference that will be made in the hearts of our youth this weekend as they complete their back to school retreat.

But I am very excited that God uses all of our lives to make a difference in the world around us, if we are just open to stepping outside our comfort zone and letting Him use us.

And in using us He can change us through those experiences.
